Stumbling on Happiness

When you search for Books on Happiness on Google, this is the first book that is suggested by Google. But believe me or not, Google is incorrect in this case. Although the name also suggest so, in reality the book has very less to teach about happiness. It primarily educates the readers about the shortcomings of our imagination. It tells three flaws in our ability to imagine our future but do not offer much advice on overcoming them.

The Three Flaws of the Human Ability to Imagine the Future:

  • Imagination tends to add and remove details which may be critical.
  • Our Imagined Future is much more like our present than our real future will be.
  • Imagination fails to realize that things will feel differently once they actually happen.

Written in simple language with no technical terms, the author presents stats and studies on which he has based his theories. According to me, this book is good for those interested in learning about human psychology but not so useful for a normal person pursuing happiness.
